A BIKETOWN member card is not required to ride BIKETOWN, but it can make it even easier to ride. The cards are embedded with an RFID chip and are used to bypass typing in your account number on the keypad to unlock a bike. You will only need to type in your PIN to ride. Cards are available for free to Annual Members (including BIKETOWN for All, Nike Employee, Transportation Wallet, PSU Student, and Portland Student members) and for $2 to Month-to-Month and Pay-As-You-Go members at any BIKETOWN kiosk (for kiosk locations, see our map and select “hub with kiosk” in the legend.)
To retrieve a card at a kiosk, press the large button that says “Already a member? View Account Number.”
From there, press the large button that says “Issue Membership Card.” You’ll be prompted to insert the credit card used to set up the account in order to verify your account. Click “Get a Card” and the kiosk will dispense your new orange BIKETOWN member card!
To use your Member Card, hold it over the keypad on the back of the bike until you hear a beep. This allows you to skip the step of entering your account number. From there, you’ll be prompted for your 4-digit PIN to unlock the bike.
To prevent unauthorized access to your account, do not include your PIN on your member card.
BIKETOWN memberships cannot be shared and are nontransferable. If we suspect that you are sharing your membership or if we find any suspicious activity, your account will be suspended.
