Why is Ride Free in May happening?
In celebration of Bike Month, BIKETOWN is offering a special promotion - ride free all month and park free to any bike rack in the entire BIKETOWN service area.
Do I need to be a BIKETOWN member to Ride Free in May?
Yes, you need to subscribe to BIKETOWN and become a member to take advantage of Ride Free in May. You can subscribe through our website , the app or at one of 20 kiosks throughout the city to participate.
What happens if I lock up a bike outside of the service area?
Locking a bike outside of the service area will incur a $10 charge. To avoid this charge use the Hold Feature for up to 30 minutes of Hold time. Be sure to keep an eye on the system map in the app to know if you’re still within the service area.
Can I lock the bike at regular bike racks?
Yes, it's free to park at all bike racks. Please do not lock to any Trimet infrastructure.
Where can I park?
You can lock to any bike rack in the city, within the service area, for free. Locking outside of the service area will result in a $10 fee. Always be sure the lock is securely fastened to the bike rack.
Can I check out more than one bike for free?
If you are using the Single Ride plan, you can only check out one bike at a time. If you are an Annual member, any additional bikes you check out (up to 4 total) will be charged to your account at $0.10/min starting from the additional rider’s first moment of ride time. Their time is not included in your 90 minutes of ride time per day.
What should I do if I see a bike not locked up properly?
If you see a bike that is locked to itself, to a bus stop pole, or in a way that is obstructing people’s movement, please send a description of where and how the bike is parked, along with the bike number on the back fender, to firstname.lastname@example.org.
There’s a bike locked up in front of my business and it’s not at an orange rack. Is that allowed?
Thanks for asking! Yes, BIKETOWN bikes have built-in locks and are allowed to be parked at any bike rack on public property within the BIKETOWN service area. This allows customers to get right to your door. There is no need to call BIKETOWN if you see a BIKETOWN bike parked near your business - there’s a good chance another BIKETOWN user will come along and ride it soon. If, however, the bike is blocking a walkway or is locked only to itself, not to a bike rack, please notify us at email@example.com.
What if my last BIKETOWN membership was a Day Pass? How do I ride for free?
To ride for free during May, you’ll want to switch yourself onto the Single Ride plan. You will still be able to log into the BIKETOWN app or access your BIKETOWN account online (see the “log in” button at biketownpdx.com) with your email and the password you created. From there, click the tab that says “Memberships” and the button that says “Change Plan.” From there, select the Single Ride plan.
