BIKETOWN bikes can be put on hold for up to 30 minutes if you want to make a stop in the middle of ride and be assured that the bike will still be available for your use later.
After you get off the bike, press the button beneath the word “HOLD” on the LCD screen on the back of the bike. You’ll then be prompted to lock the bike. The default hold time is 30 minutes. You can press the buttons underneath the + or - symbols on the LCD screen to extend or reduce the hold time (maximum hold time is 60 minutes).
Note that hold time counts toward your total ride time.
When you return to the bike, you’ll be prompted to enter your PIN to unlock it.
If you don’t return to your bike and unlock it again before the hold expires, your bike will be considered available for rental by another user. Please note that an extra fee will apply if your bike was left locked outside of a station ($2) or outside of the service area ($20).
